Carragher asserts that Amorim, due to his poor performance as United's manager, lacks the authority to question his appointers and is unfit for the role

Jamie Carragher, the Liverpool legend and former England defender, has sent a clear message to the board of Manchester United regarding their current manager, Ruben Amorim. According to Carragher, Amorim is 'not good enough' to lead the club and is 'barely competent enough' for a Premier League managerial role.

Amorim’s future as manager of Manchester United was thrown into fresh doubt following his comments after United’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United. The Portuguese boss stressed that he was the manager rather than a head coach amid reports of tension between him and those above him at the club.

These comments came on the heels of previous statements where ex-Sporting boss Amorim appeared to criticise the club for not backing him during January's transfer window. However, Carragher believes that given his poor reign as United's manager, Amorim is in ‘no position’ to ‘question those who appointed him’.

Jamie Carragher, Liverpool legend, said:

‘I don’t think he is in any position whatsoever to be questioning the people who appointed him. Because he’s not good enough. He’s not good enough to be Manchester United’s manager. He’s barely competent enough to be a Premier League manager right now.’

Underwhelming performance under Amorim

Under Ruben Amorim's leadership, Manchester United finished 15th in last season’s Premier League and continues to underwhelm this term despite having no European commitments.

When asked about possible reasons behind these issues with performance under his management, Carragher suggested it could be one of two things - either an issue with player performance or problems within management itself.

Jamie Carragher added:

‘It can only be one of two things. It can either be about the January transfer market, that he’s not being backed. Or the people above him are questioning that he’s flip-flopping between systems.

‘It started to look like he was getting somewhere with a back four, he went back to a five at the back against Wolves and it was possibly the worst performance from a team we’ve seen against Wolves this season.’

The team has won just one out of their last five games - a disappointing run that has left them sixth in the Premier League standings and three points outside Champions League qualification places.

Upcoming press conference

Amidst all these speculations and criticisms surrounding his role at Old Trafford, it will be interesting to see if Ruben clarifies his stance during his next press conference scheduled for Tuesday. This will be ahead of Manchester United's trip to Burnley the following day.

The future of Ruben Amorim at Manchester United remains uncertain. His performance as a manager has been underwhelming, and his recent comments have only added fuel to the fire. As Carragher suggests, it might be time for the board to reconsider their choice and look for someone who can lead the team back to its former glory.
