City are expected to miss services of their key defenders Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias

Arsenal have received an early boost in their Premier League title race as Manchester City's key defenders, Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias, are set to be sidelined for a few weeks due to injuries.

The Gunners secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, taking them six points clear of Aston Villa at the top of the table. Meanwhile, Manchester City started seven points behind but were on track to reduce this deficit to four.

However, a surprise equaliser by midfielder Enzo Fernandez during stoppage time against Chelsea at Etihad Stadium left Man City six points adrift of Arsenal. This disappointing draw was further compounded by injuries to two key players.

Double injury blow for Man City

Gvardiol had to be substituted early in the second half due to injury while Dias was replaced in the 81st minute with an injury concern of his own. Speaking after the game, Pep Guardiola acknowledged that it does not look good and believes that both centre-backs will be out for a 'few weeks'.

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager, said:

“Apparently it doesn’t look good; we will see tomorrow. I think they will be on the sidelines for a few weeks.”

The Citizens have relied heavily on Dias and Gvardiol this season; their absence is indeed a significant blow. With John Stones also currently sidelined due to injury, Abdukodir Khusanov and Nathan Ake could potentially play crucial roles in upcoming matches. Despite having limited minutes during this campaign so far, these two players may need to step up significantly as it remains uncertain how well Manchester giants will fare over these next few critical weeks without their regular defenders.

Opportunity for Arsenal

This situation presents an early title boost for Arsenal, but the team must remain focused on their own performance and continue winning to maintain pressure. The Gunners face a challenging match against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night. They will be aiming for their first win over the Reds since February 2024.

While injuries to key players in rival teams can provide an advantage, it is ultimately up to Arsenal to capitalise on this opportunity and continue their winning streak in the Premier League.
